MAFAR and Adiong Memorial State College lead Community Clean-Up Drive in Ditsa-an Ramain

Brgy. Polo, Ditsa-an Ramain, Lanao del Sur — In a robust display of environmental stewardship and collaboration, the Provincial Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) Fisheries Sector—specifically the Fisheries Resource Management division—partnered with the Municipal MAFAR and students from Adiong Memorial State College (AMSC) conducted a comprehensive Community Clean-Up Drive yesterday, July 15, 2026.

The activity took place at Brgy. Polo, Ditsaan-Ramain, drawing together youth leaders, government officials, and fisheries experts to address local environmental concerns.

Under the theme "Strengthening of Youth Organizations in Environment Sustainability," the initiative aimed to empower the next generation of fisheries professionals. Students from the Department of Fisheries within the College of Natural Resources and Sustainability at AMSC participated directly in the field, bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical resource management.

Key academic leaders in attendance included Sir Jaber Gumaga, a Research assistant, Sir Jahirun S. Mungkon, Program Head of the Department of Fisheries, and Dean Sohryah A. Jamel, Dean of the College of Natural Resources and Sustainability.

The clean-up targeted the shoreline and surrounding areas of the local waters, which are vital to the community's fisheries resources. Participants, equipped with brooms, shovels, and large collection bags, worked systematically to remove various types of waste.

The efforts included the following, to wit: first is debris removal which is clearing plastic waste and litter from the concrete walkways and embankments; second is vegetation management, the removing of overgrown grass and clearing away thick patches of water hyacinths and other organic debris that can impede water flow and affect local ecosystems; and third is waste collection by bagging and properly disposing of large quantities of refuse to ensure a cleaner habitat for aquatic life.

The drive was not only a physical effort but also an educational one. Alimoddin P. Macodi, a Senior Aquaculturist, served as a resource speaker, sharing his expertise and providing insights into the critical importance of fisheries resource management later in a seminar workshop event on that day.

The operation was supported by a dedicated team of professionals, including Muhammad Yusoph L. Watamama (Supervising Aquaculturist), Bairanie L. Bantuas (Aquaculturist II), Norjanah B. Oma, JD (Program Officer for Fisheries), and Bairan Acoon (MAFAR Municipal Officer).

This collaborative event underscores a growing commitment in Lanao del Sur to maintain the health of its water bodies through active community participation and the strengthening of local youth organizations.
