AMSC kickstarts Academic Year 2026-2027 with Visionary General Orientation

Ditsa-an Ramain, Lanao del Sur — Adiong Memorial State College (AMSC) officially welcomed its students for Academic Year 2026–2027 with a General Orientation held on July 17, 2026 at the AMSC Gymnasium. The event gathered administrators, faculty, staff, and students in a vibrant assembly that reflected both academic tradition and a strong commitment to student welfare.

The program began with preliminaries, including the invocation, national anthem, and institutional hymns, setting a solemn and respectful tone. Dr. Sittienor C. Abubakar, the Dean of the College of Education in behalf of Dr. Rashida A. Abedin, Vice President for Administration and Finance, delivered the opening remarks, reminding students of the importance of discipline and dedication in their studies.

The event, themed around familiarizing the student body with institutional units and policies, highlighted significant infrastructure advancements and a reinforced commitment to student safety and welfare.

This was followed by an inspirational message from AMSC President Dr. Sherifa Rohannie K. Adiong, who encouraged students to embrace their roles as future leaders and agents of positive change.

In her inspirational message, AMSC President Dr. Sherifa Rohannie K. Adiong shared major updates regarding the institution’s modernization. She announced a partnership with Bataan Peninsula State University for the solarization of the campus, aiming to provide 24/7 electricity and internet connectivity, particularly benefiting students in the dormitories.

Furthermore, Dr. Adiong introduced the upcoming E-Human Resource Information System (HRIS), a database partnership with Davao State College designed to digitize all student and employee records to prevent data loss and streamline enrollment processes. She emphasized that despite being one of the institutions with the lowest budgets in the country, AMSC continues to thrive, with new facilities like a science laboratory building and a speech laboratory under development.

To support the student body, the administration reaffirmed several "good news" privileges, to wit: firstly as to the scholarships, 132 students are currently under the Senator Loren Legarda scholarship, with an additional 100 slots provided by the office of Congressman Jude Acidre; secondly, is the free transportation with daily free shuttle services continue to operate from Marawi City and the Taraka area to the campus. And thirdly, the State College provides free WiFi connectivity across the campus.

One of the highlights of the orientation was the keynote address by Hon. Jamil Faisal “Jeff” Saro Adiong, who spoke passionately on the theme “Empowering Youth to Become Anti-Bullying Advocates.” His message resonated deeply with the audience, urging students to stand against harassment and foster a culture of respect and inclusivity within the campus. As he was a former Board Member and youth advocate, as the guest speaker, Hon. Adiong, who is also pursuing a program in sustainable development, was recognized for his contributions to education and his advocacies for children with special needs.

During the ceremony, AMSC stakeholders presented him with a plaque and certificate of appreciation for his expert contribution to the orientation.

Reinforcing this advocacy, Atty. Emmirhama P. Macabando presented the legal framework against bullying and other prohibited conduct, equipping students with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities. Atty. Macabando detailed the responsibilities of the school administration, counselors, and students in maintaining a safe environment. She highlighted that addressing bullying is a "collective effort" and warned that schools could be held liable for negligence if they fail to provide a secure learning atmosphere.

The orientation also introduced students to the various support services available at the State College. Representatives from the Accounting Office, Information Office, Records Unit, Planning Office, Division of Student Affairs, Registrar, Guidance and Counseling Office, Health Services, Library, Cashier Unit, Scholarship Services, ROTC, Housing, and Security Services outlined their roles in ensuring student success and well-being. This segment underscored AMSC’s holistic approach to education, ensuring that students are not only academically prepared but also supported in their personal and social development.

Hosted by Sir Abdul Rafie R. Masbud, the atmosphere, as captured in the photos, was lively and inspiring. Rows of students in uniform listened attentively, while faculty and staff stood in solidarity with them. The venue was adorned with national flags and banners, symbolizing multicultural unity and the institution’s alignment with global priorities such as the Sustainable Development Goals.

The program concluded with closing remarks from Prof. Luis Siddick F. Adiong, Director of the Division of Student Affairs, who reminded students of their shared responsibility in building a safe and nurturing campus environment. The orientation marked not just the beginning of a new semester but also the reaffirmation of AMSC’s mission to empower its students academically, socially, and morally.

As the academic year begins, AMSC positions itself as a growing hub for transformational education in the Bangsamoro region.

Students were reminded of their specific responsibility to participate in anti-bullying programs and report incidents to authorities. Additionally, the administration underscored a strict “No Smoking” and "No ID, No Entry" policies to enhance campus security.
